{"id":780160,"date":"2025-03-26T07:56:11","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T07:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/?p=780160"},"modified":"2025-03-26T09:09:25","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T09:09:25","slug":"uk-teams-shortlisted-in-pragues-florenc21-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/uk-teams-shortlisted-in-pragues-florenc21-contest","title":{"rendered":"UK teams shortlisted in Prague\u2019s Florenc21 contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The contest \u2013 organised by local urban research platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onplanlab.com\/en\/\">ONplan lab<\/a> on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pentarealestate.com\/en\/\">Penta Real Estate<\/a> \u2013 seeks \u2018compelling\u2019 proposals for 85,000m\u00b2 of mixed-use development, including new homes, offices, leisure and retail areas.<\/p>\n<p>The two UK finalists for the jobs in the capital of the Czech Republic are <a href=\"https:\/\/studioegretwest.com\/\">Studio Egret West<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morrisand.company\/\">Morris+Company<\/a>. Studio Egret West is shortlisted for Block B01 \u2013 a 20,900m\u00b2 gateway office building \u2013 while Morris+Company is vying for two residential buildings dubbed Block B02 and Block B03 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The competition launched in November 2024 \u2013 three years after a team including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/prague-masterplan-competition-won-by-emerging-uk-practice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London practice Marko and Placemakers won a high-profile contest<\/a> to re-masterplan the entire 24ha Florenc area.<\/p>\n<p>Florenc is the largest brownfield site in close contact with Prague\u2019s historic city centre. It is shaped by transport infrastructure, including a bus terminal, train station and highway flyover, and represents one of the city\u2019s most complex urban challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Bjarke Ingels Group won an international contest organised by The City of Prague for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/competitions\/big-sees-off-worlds-top-names-to-win-new-concert-hall-in-prague\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">major new \u00a3204 million (CZK 6.1 billion) waterfront concert hall<\/a> close to the Vltavsk\u00e1 metro station in 2022. The City of Prague also announced an international competitive dialogue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/competitions\/rohan-and-liben-island-prague\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rethink a prominent 56ha waterfront site<\/a> in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>Penta Real Estate is one of the largest independent developers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and has worked on previous schemes by Serie Architects and Studio Fuksas. Fifteen years ago Zaha Hadid Architects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaha-hadid.com\/architecture\/sky-park-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won a competition held by the developer<\/a> for a high-rise \u2018Sky Park\u2019 development in Bratislava.<\/p>\n<p>Czech architectural studio ADNS architekti won a contest launched four years ago by Penta Real Estate to design a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/competitions\/competition-vysocany-housing-prague\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mixed-use development in Prague\u2019s post-industrial Vyso\u010dany<\/a> suburb. In 2023, Studio Egret West and Sn\u00f8hetta \u2013 working in a 50:50 collaboration alongside local practice Gro Architekti \u2013 were named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/uk-norwegian-team-beats-big-names-to-win-bratislava-southbank-contest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overall winners of a Penta Real Estate contest<\/a> to redevelop Bratislava Southbank.<\/p>\n<p>Judges of the latest contest include the German architect Stefan Behnisch, Italian architect Maria Alessandra Segantini, Dutch urbanist Kees Christiaanse and Czech Architecture Prize winner \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1n Valouch.<\/p>\n<p>Up to eight teams have been shortlisted for each site and invited to participate in the design phase of the competition.
