It follows a flurry of hotel development in the city over the past decade following a 2012 report which outlined the need to widen the city\u2019s accommodation offer.<\/p>\n<p>According to the brief: \u2018Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council (the Councils) are producing a new joint Greater Cambridge Local Plan which will cover the combined geographic area of the two local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Councils are seeking to work with a contractor who can demonstrate a high level of knowledge and practical experience of visitor accommodation needs assessments related to development plan making and has a good understanding of changing visitor accommodation patterns.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Cambridge is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. Last year, the University of Cambridge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/university-of-cambridge-names-the-teams-on-its-80-framework\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">named the architects chosen<\/a> for its new \u00a380 million construction consultancy services framework.<\/p>\n<p>Major developments within the city include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/exclusive-design-team-revealed-for-48ha-cambridge-neighbourhood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a33.5 billion housing-led transformation of a water recycling centre site<\/a> by Urbed for U+I and TOWN, which completed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/buildings\/building-study-marmalade-lane-cohousing-by-mole-architects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mole-designed council-backed Marmalade Lane co-housing scheme<\/a> in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Victoria Fabron, Eric Martin, Pawel Pietkun and Luciano Ingenito from the Cambridge studio of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliesandmorrison.com\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Allies and Morrison<\/a> won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/winner-of-cambridge-urban-room-contest-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overall top prize in a Cambridge Association of Architects ideas contest<\/a> for a new \u2018urban room\u2019 and logo.<\/p>\n<p>Bids for the latest commission will be evaluated 60 per cent on quality and 40 per cent on price.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factfile\">\n<h3><strong>Competition details<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Project title<\/strong> South Cambridgeshire District Council &#8211; Greater Cambridge Future Hotel Need Study<br \/>\n<strong>Client<\/strong> South Cambridgeshire District Council<br \/>\n<strong>Contract value\u00a0<\/strong>Tbc<br \/>\n<strong>First round deadline<\/strong> 1pm, 28 March 2025<br \/>\n<strong>Restrictions <\/strong>Applicants must provide a minimum of three references<br \/>\n<strong>More information<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contractsfinder.service.gov.uk\/notice\/81b6a169-ed9d-4926-97db-ac54efd44ca0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.contractsfinder.service.gov.uk\/notice\/81b6a169-ed9d-4926-97db-ac54efd44ca0<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The winning team will investigate the demand for different types of additional hotel accommodation within the historic city which receives around 8.2 million visitors a year of which approximately 10 per cent stay overnight.
