The scholarships \u2013 launched to coincide with Clarion\u2019s 125th anniversary \u2013 will support students from low-income households and social housing backgrounds through their degree courses in architecture and sustainability.<\/p>\n

The initiative aims to increase diversity and level the playing field for young people entering the profession. Working with London Neighbourhood Scholarship Trust, the scholarship will see three winning students of architecture from underrepresented backgrounds living in London each receive \u00a315,000 to be distributed in \u00a35,000 instalments over three years.<\/p>\n

The housing association \u2013 in partnership with financial education specialists Blackbullion \u2013 is also offering two \u00a318,000 scholarships providing financial and career support to students of sustainability who live or have lived in social housing.<\/p>\n

Clarion\u2019s chief executive, Clare Miller, said: \u2018Pursuing a degree in architecture or sustainability is an expensive and time-intensive endeavour, with the cost often acting as a barrier to students progressing their degrees to completion.<\/p>\n

\u2018Through these scholarships, it is my hope that we\u2019ll be able to help level the playing field and encourage a more diverse body of future architects and sustainability professionals, removing the stress of having to work through university to pay the bills, buy materials and fund study trips.<\/p>\n

\u2018To maximise impact, our focus is on providing opportunities for social housing residents and those from low-income households in London. In addition to financial support, we\u2019ll also be offering scholars access to mentoring and work placements to help them kickstart their careers, welcoming them into the William Sutton Prize family.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018As someone who studied architecture on a scholarship, I know first-hand how vital this support can be in removing financial barriers to create much-needed opportunities for social mobility.<\/p>\n

\u2018By investing in diverse voices, we help shape a more inclusive and representative future for the field. I very much look forward to working with Clarion and the other trustees to select this year’s cohort of LNS scholars.\u2019<\/p>\n

Clarion Housing Group formed nine years ago following a merger of Circle Housing Group and Affinity Sutton, which was founded after Sutton\u2019s death in 1900. The housing association is today the largest in the UK, managing 125,000 homes across 170 local authorities.<\/p>\n

Sutton was born in the City of London in 1833 and created Sutton Carriers, the country\u2019s first door-to-door parcel service. He bequeathed his entire fortune to a range of charitable projects, including providing much-needed public housing across the capital.<\/p>\n

The launch of the new scholarships comes two months after Clarion Housing Group relaunched its ideas contest for radical concepts to transform the lives of social housing residents<\/a> with a prize fund enlarged to \u00a3125,000 to celebrate its 125th anniversary.<\/p>\n

The scholarships programme will see three people studying architecture each receive \u00a315,000 and two people studying sustainability each receive \u00a318,000. One of the architecture scholarships is supported by AHMM.<\/p>\n

In addition to funding, scholars will also benefit from a tailored package of career support, including mentorship, internships and work experience opportunities facilitated by jobs and training experts within Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group.<\/p>\n

\nYou must live in London and provide proof of residence for the past three years.
\nYour household income must be below \u00a340,000.
\nYou must have accepted an offer at a London-based School of Architecture.

Sustainability scholarships:
\nYou must be entering the first year of a full-time undergraduate course.
\nYou must be paying domestic UK tuition fees.
