{"id":777871,"date":"2025-03-12T18:10:44","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T18:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/?p=777871"},"modified":"2025-03-13T12:14:07","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T12:14:07","slug":"satish-jassal-completes-haringey-social-housing-with-intergenerational-units","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/buildings\/satish-jassal-completes-haringey-social-housing-with-intergenerational-units","title":{"rendered":"Satish Jassal completes Haringey social housing with intergenerational units"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The council-led scheme aims to rejuvenate an existing council estate with a range of sustainable, low-carbon homes that are 100 per cent social rent.<\/p>\n<p>The masterplan, designed by north London practice Satish Jassal Architects, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/practice\/new-practice-satish-jassal-architects\">which set up 10 years ago<\/a>, consists of 31 apartments, four wheelchair-accessible flats, 11 townhouses and, unusually, four intergenerational maisonette homes.<\/p>\n<p>Intergenerational housing is a new idea based on an old model: people of different ages living together and sharing their skills and time. In the past, this tended to be within extended families or tightly-knit local communities. But more recently, it has been introduced into some older people\u2019s housing.<\/p>\n<p>The 46 new units are spread over a cluster of red brick-clad blocks, which have been oriented to mirror the zigzag plan of the existing housing blocks.
