{"id":777607,"date":"2025-03-07T10:37:28","date_gmt":"2025-03-07T10:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/?p=777607"},"modified":"2025-03-11T13:01:21","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T13:01:21","slug":"sneak-peak-ingese-shortlisted-revealed-in-barkitecture-dog-kennel-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/sneak-peak-ingese-shortlisted-revealed-in-barkitecture-dog-kennel-competition","title":{"rendered":"Sneak Peek-ingese: shortlist revealed in Barkitecture dog kennel competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finalists in the contest include ADAM Architecture, ECE Architecture, David Snowdon and Matthew Rice with Scott Simpson, George &amp; James Architects, and Hall + Bednarczyk Architects.<\/p>\n<p>Haysom Ward Miller Architects, Lincoln Miles Architecture, Max McMurdo, Pell-Stevens Architects, Randell Design Group, Sebastian Conran and Beta Design Office, and SOM complete the shortlist.<\/p>\n<p>The competition invited architects and design practices to create kennel designs that embrace the great outdoors, inspired by the theme From Nature; For Nature.<\/p>\n<p>It is curated by TV presenter Kevin McCloud and Charles Gordon-Lennox, 11th Duke of Richmond.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s shortlist includes seven entrants who are entering the annual competition for the first time. The overall winner will receive the Kennel Design Award.<\/p>\n<p>Participants must design and construct or procure their kennel, delivering the finished kennel to Goodwood in time for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwood.com\/goodwoof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goodwoof festival,<\/a> which takes place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May.<\/p>\n<p>All kennels will be auctioned by Bonhams on the Sunday of Goodwoof, raising funds for <a href=\"https:\/\/media.goodwood.com\/goodwoof-announces-wild-at-heart-foundation-as-2025-charity-partner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wild at Heart Foundation<\/a>, which supports sterilisation, education, and welfare programmes to help reduce the number of stray dogs worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winner was Rolls-Royce its \u2018Pet-All\u2019 design. It was picked from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/big-names-shortlisted-in-barkitecture-dog-kennel-competition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shortlist<\/a> that included Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects, Chapman Taylor, Gianni Botsford Architects and Grimshaw.<\/p>\n<p>McCloud said: <em>\u2018<\/em>Our beloved dogs adore the great outdoors, making the theme a wonderful way for us humans to reconnect with the natural world we share with them. I\u2019m really looking forward to seeing how this year\u2019s architects embrace the theme and weave a sense of adventure into their designs.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Aiste Butler, graphic designer and dog trainer at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sw.dog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SW Dog Training<\/a> in London, commented: \u2018It\u2019s heartening to see some of the world\u2019s best architects turning their talents to creating unique and memorable kennels inspired by the great outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018A well-behaved dog loves nothing more than to play outside. The kennel\u2019s exterior is robust and enduring, crafted to thrive in the natural environment, allowing dogs to immerse themselves in the scents and sounds of the outdoors. The design will be crafted from repurposed timber and features five perforated blocks of varying sizes, which can be rotated to showcase the cherished treasures dogs typically collect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lincoln Miles Architecture<br \/>\n<\/strong>Taking inspiration from the natural world and the striking camouflage patterns of zebras and First World War dazzle ships, Lincoln Miles Architecture, in collaboration with artist Lisa Traxler, has designed \u2018Camwooflage &#8211; Dazzle Dog\u2019. Embracing the concept of \u2018hiding in plain sight\u2019, the kennel provides an incognito haven, blending seamlessly with the natural environment while offering a visually captivating habitat for dogs to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Max McMurdo<br \/>\n<\/strong>Entering Barkitecture for the first time, designer, author and TV presenter Max McMurdo has created a kennel for stray dogs \u2013 those often left without a home or shelter.
