St Mary\u2019s Catholic Voluntary Academy school and the \u00a314.3 million St Margaret\u2019s Gateway interchange are joined by DHA Architects\u2019 revamp and redevelopment of John Soane\u2019s Grade I-listed Aynho Park, a \u2018light-touch<\/a>\u2019 retrofit of the <\/span>Primary visual arts centre in Nottingham by Pricegore, and the conversion by James Boon Architects of Subury Gasworks into a new community venue.<\/p>\n

In 2024 the region\u2019s Building of the Year Award went to Curl la Tourelle Head Architecture\u2019s derelict-warehouse-to-school conversion.<\/p>\n

RIBA East Midlands jury chair Anne Schroell, an associate at N\u00edall McLaughlin Architects, said: \u2018This year\u2019s inspiring shortlist of projects demonstrates a strong commitment to community, sustainability or reuse.<\/p>\n

\u2018From the sensitive restoration of historic and listed structures to the creation of engaging learning environments and inclusive cultural hubs, the projects reflect the region\u2019s dedication to thoughtful, forward-thinking design.<\/p>\n

\u2018Sustainability remains at the heart of this year\u2019s selection, with architects embracing low-carbon solutions and adaptive reuse to breathe new life into treasured buildings ensuring they continue to serve and inspire future generations.\u2019<\/p>\n

The five shortlisted projects will now be visited by a regional jury and the winning projects will be announced later this spring.<\/p>\n

The winners will then be considered for RIBA Special Awards, including the RIBA Sustainability Award and RIBA Building of the Year, before being considered for a RIBA National Award, which will be announced in summer.<\/p>\n

The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize \u2013 the UK\u2019s best new building \u2013 will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning projects and announced in September.<\/p>\n

The Stirling Prize winner will be announced in October.<\/p>\n
