{"id":773268,"date":"2025-02-06T09:41:15","date_gmt":"2025-02-06T09:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/?p=773268"},"modified":"2025-02-07T11:49:08","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T11:49:08","slug":"sanaa-wins-royal-gold-medal-2025aemium-imperiale-2022-for-architecture-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/sanaa-wins-royal-gold-medal-2025aemium-imperiale-2022-for-architecture-2","title":{"rendered":"Japanese stars SANAA win Royal Gold Medal for architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the RIBA, which announced the honour today (6 February), the medal recognises the Japanese practice\u2019s work around the globe and projects that \u2018bring simplicity, light and elegance to the fore\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanaa.co.jp\/\">SANAA<\/a> is known for its \u2018sustainable, user-centred design\u2019 including art galleries such as the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the 21st\u00a0Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa (2004), Lourve-Lens in France (2012) and the Sydney Modern in New South Wales, Australia (2022).<\/p>\n<p>In 2010 the studio completed the \u2018quietly flowing low rise\u2019 Rolex Learning Center at the \u00c9cole Polytechnique F\u00e9d\u00e9rale de Lausanne.<\/p>\n<p>SANAA has only had one project built in the UK: the 2009 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion.<\/p>\n<p>Other notable works over the course of their three decade career include, the Dior Omotesando Store, Japan (2003); One which oscillates between the two partners as individual practitioners, but whose many collaborations always produce interesting and remarkable results.<\/p>\n<p>Balancing subtlety with strength, SANAA\u2019s landmark works speak for themselves.
