{"id":767379,"date":"2024-12-11T09:23:47","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T09:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/?p=767379"},"modified":"2024-12-11T09:23:47","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T09:23:47","slug":"aj-climate-champions-podcast-even-a-small-practice-can-push-the-boundaries-of-reuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/aj-climate-champions-podcast-even-a-small-practice-can-push-the-boundaries-of-reuse","title":{"rendered":"AJ Climate Champions podcast: \u2018Even a small practice can push the boundaries of reuse\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN\">In this episode, Brisco describes the conversion of a former barbers in Battersea High Street for Arrant Industries into a home\/office for himself and his partner Pandora Loran. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN\">Enabled by the recent expansion of \u2018retail to residential\u2019 permitted development rights, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/specification\/case-study-costas-barbers-by-brisco-loran-and-arrant-industries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Costa\u2019s Barbers<\/a> sports a yellow shopfront, maroon signage and a deep awning, which is rolled out on sunny late afternoons or when \u2018it\u2019s spitting,\u2019 providing a popular place to linger and chat. <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN\">The architects have packed ingenuity into Costa Barbers\u2019 54 square metres. The shopfront incorporates sliding sash windows with panels of translucent patterned glass that can be adjusted for degrees of privacy.
