Queen Zaha<\/em>\u00a0will offer an \u2018intimate portrait\u2019 of the late Iraqi-British architect’s life, according to publisher HarperCollins.<\/p>\n

It is being written by Pulitzer prize-winning authors Mark Stevens,<\/a> a veteran art critic who has worked for Newsweek <\/em>and New York Magazine<\/em>, and Annalyn Swan,<\/a>\u00a0former senior arts editor of Newsweek<\/em> and a former Time<\/em> writer.<\/p>\n

ZHA, which was founded by Hadid in 1979, told the AJ it had been collaborating with the authors for over a year on the biography.<\/p>\n

The book, due to be published in 2029, is being funded by a research grant from Hadid\u2019s estate, which is providing its the full cooperation on the project.<\/p>\n

HarperCollins said the book would offer \u2018an intimate portrait of Zaha Hadid and a nuanced exploration of her transformative legacy in architecture\u2019.<\/p>\n

Hadid died suddenly<\/a> of a heart attack in Miami on 31 March, 2016, sending shockwaves through the architectural world. She was 65.<\/p>\n

Earlier in 2016 she had become the first woman to be the sole recipient of the Royal Gold Medal for architecture, for being a \u2018formidable and globally influential force in architecture\u2019. In 2004 she became the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize.<\/p>\n

Hadid’s most renowned buildings include her two Stirling Prize winners, the MAXXI Museum in Rome (2010), and Evelyn Grace Academy in London (2011), as well as the Vitra Fire Station in Weil-am-Rhein in Germany (1993), the Guangzhou Opera House in China (2010), the Riverside Museum in Glasgow (2011), and the London Aquatics Center (2011).<\/p>\n

Lauded as the first female \u2018starchitect\u2019 in a male-dominated world, Hadid was made a Dame in 2012 for her services to architecture.<\/p>\n

Co-author Swan said Hadid was \u2018a wonderful subject for biographers\u2019, describing her as \u2018an outspoken, immensely talented Iraqi woman in the male-centric world of Western architecture, [who] struggled for years to break through \u2013 only to become, in the end, one of the most celebrated of contemporary architects\u2019.<\/p>\n

Stevens described Hadid as a \u2018flamboyant woman from Iraq who lived in a sceptical London\u2019, a \u2018marvellous character\u2019, and a \u2018visionary who hoped to reshape the world\u2019.<\/p>\n

Stevens and Swan\u2019s first book, de Kooning: An American Master<\/em>, on Dutch American painter Willem de Kooning, won the Pulitzer Prize for biography in 2005.
