He explained how communicating with staff, offering learning and mentoring, and flexible working conditions are at the core of the practice\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<p>Good design, stand-out employee benefits ranging from parental leave to menstrual leave, and company culture on issues such as limiting overtime are also part of the Hackney Wick-based practice\u2019s approach to being a good employer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-wrap\">\n<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\" class=\"content-inner-wrap full-width\">\n<div class=\"content container\">\n<article class=\"post-listing post-714421 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-news tag-aj100-lunch tag-demolition tag-reuse tag-sustainability editorial-aj100-club editorial-homepage-news editorial-news editorial-retrofirst editorial-retrofit editorial-sustainable-building\">\n<div class=\"post-inner\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>Bayliss argued that being a good employer was interlinked with being good architects and that \u2018as time has gone on, the two have kind of become more interlocked\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018The primary focus when we started [as an LLP in 2013], was really focusing on the quality of the places we were creating, because I think we felt we were already doing quite good things around the employment side &#8230; [but] you have to do both.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Bespoke Careers director Lucy Cahill, one of the judges for the AJ100 Employer of the Year, told the room: \u2018When you walk into HTA, the first conversation is about projects linked to the people, employees and community. Employment ethos and output were also reasons cited by judges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2018There\u2019s a willingness to keep themselves [HTA] on their toes and keep doing better,\u2019 said the judges. \u2018They continue to hold themselves to account for everything.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">HTA Design has offices in London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol, and is ranked 18th in the AJ100.
