The 47,400m\u00b2 <\/span> World Laureates Association (WLA) lab opened in Shanghai today (2 July).<\/p>\n

It was commissioned by Shenzhen-based property conglomerate Parkland Group and designed by PLP alongside a wider team including Arup, the Shanghai Institute for Architectural Design, Hassell, BAM, HDA, and the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute (ECADI).<\/p>\n

PLP said the building was designed \u2018to meet the unique needs of machine and deep learning development\u2019.<\/p>\n

It added that the lab offers \u2018a comprehensive ecosystem under one roof\u2019, unlike the \u2018generic and fragmented spaces\u2019 that most AI companies operate from.<\/p>\n

As well as a \u2018super lab\u2019 for physical simulations, the scheme includes specialist labs for \u2018diverse technological experiments\u2019, secure data centres and general labs focused on human wellbeing.<\/p>\n

Key research spaces are visible to the public through glass fa\u00e7ades at street level where \u2018appropriate\u2019.<\/p>\n

A large central atrium includes five distinct collaboration spaces for scientists, while the roof features a series of landscaped terraces and gardens for workers to use.<\/p>\n

The building\u2019s grid fa\u00e7ade, consisting of large glass units and metal panels, integrates solar shading strategies while allowing natural light into interior spaces, according to PLP.<\/p>\n

PLP partner Andrei Martin described the AI lab as \u2018an open invitation to the world\u2019s best minds to co-create a better future together\u2019.<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018With this first-of-its-kind building, we have designed a space to empower scientists to tackle ground-breaking research through adaptive environments, cutting-edge infrastructure, and seamless data flow.<\/p>\n

\u2018The result is a laboratory of possibilities, redefining our relationship with technology and blurring the line between human and machine.\u2019<\/p>\n
