Nominating practice Haworth Tompkins praised its \u2018exceptional vision, bold ambition and collaborative approach\u2019 across the industrial, co-location and residential sectors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The practice last year completed Industria, billed as the UK\u2019s first multistorey light-industrial project. With a 100-year \u2018chassis\u2019 that enables flexibility and adaptive re-use, the four-storey development is conceived as a longer lifespan alternative to traditional industrial \u2018sheds\u2019. \u2018Be First\u2019s brief for Industria was genuinely innovative,\u2019 said the practice. It also praised the organisation\u2019s focus on sustainability, which it says was at the heart of every brief.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Haworth Tompkins is also working with Be First on the final phase of the 2,000-home Gascoigne West estate regeneration. The practice was impressed with the company\u2019s commitment to long-term thinking and hands-on approach to engagement with local residents. It also found Be First\u2019s exemplar Housing Pattern book and design guidelines \u2018extremely useful\u2019 during the design stages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Haworth Tompkins was one of eight teams announced last year for Be First\u2019s architecture framework to deliver 3,500 socially rented homes. Other teams include Levitt Bernstein with JA Projects and Archio \u2013 the latter practice has already completed 19 affordable homes and community facilities at the Becontree Estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Be First pips two other public sector organisations, Enfield Council and West Northamptonshire Council, as well as Central Foundation Boys\u2019 School in London and developers Muse, General Projects and Derwent London. The latter was nominated by three different AJ100 practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Shortlisted<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Central Foundation Boys\u2019 School, nominated by HawkinsBrown<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Derwent London, nominated by Buckley Gray Yeoman, dMFK Architects and Hopkins Architects<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Enfield Council, nominated by HTA Design<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">General Projects, nominated by 3DReid<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Muse, nominated by Howells<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">West Northamptonshire Council, nominated by Studio Egret West<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em>AJ100 Client of the Year was judged by the AJ editorial team<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Set up in 2017, Be First aims to deliver 50,000 new homes and create 20,000 new jobs by 2037.
