Working with O\u2019Donnell + Tuomey on the development at Stratford East Bank, the two practices submitted a reserved matters application last month for four towers housing 58,711m2<\/sup> of new residential units.<\/p>\n

Situated on a 0.9ha plot opposite Populous\u2019s London Stadium and Zaha Hadid Architects\u2019 Aquatics Centre, the development proposes two 25-storey buildings and one 23-storey block designed by Howells, as masterplanners of the overall scheme, and a 27-storey landmark building by O\u2019Donnell Tuomey.<\/p>\n

Tenures include one, two and three-bed homes, with private and shared ownership across the four blocks. The Howells masterplan also includes 1,759m2<\/sup> of commercial uses at ground level, alongside landscaping by LDA Design, play space and cycle parking.<\/p>\n

The LLDC gave outline consent<\/a> for the site in 2019, when permission was granted for the cultural buildings to the west of the application site, known as East Bank, with Allies and Morison as masterplanners.<\/p>\n

The 2019 proposal included detailed plans for the London College of Fashion, designed by Allies and Morrison, and O\u2019Donnell + Tuomey\u2019s designs for the V&A East Museum and Sadler\u2019s Wells East.<\/p>\n

Allies and Morrison’s original proposals<\/a> for the residential element of Stratford Waterfront included two towers reaching as high as 47 storeys, which the practice scaled down ahead of outline hybrid planning submission in 2019.<\/p>\n

That came after the LLDC received criticism for the proposals, once dubbed \u2018Olympicopolis\u2019, for the impact on views of St Paul\u2019s Cathedral.<\/p>\n

Howells was later appointed to oversee detailed plans for the project, with O\u2019Donnell + Toumey retained as architect on the highest tower in the scheme, known as The Prow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scheme is for a 50:50 joint venture between Ballymore and the LLDC, which is due to hand back planning powers to surrounding local authorities later this year.<\/p>\n

If approved, the scheme will be joined by several other nearby developments on the Olympic Park, including Metropolitan Workshop and Proctor & Matthews Architects\u2019<\/a> masterplan for the Carpenters Estate and Gort Scott-led plans for 950 homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n
