Building heights remain around 40m.<\/p>\n<p>According to the practice, the amount of built <span data-contrast=\"none\">area has been cut back by a fifth and more public realm, featuring a seafront park, has been introduced. The scheme will also now feature a <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">lighter colour palette.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aisfor.co\/\">A IS FOR_<\/a> unveiled designs last summer, the scheme featured several \u2018bold\u2019 leaning towers providing 600 homes and 10,000m\u00b2 of commercial space in clusters of buildings up to 40m tall on three plots.<\/p>\n<p>However, a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/block-the-folkestone-harbour-blocks\">\u00a0petition<\/a> against the scheme attracted more than 5,000 signatures and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aisfor.co\/\">A IS FOR_<\/a> was forced to return to the drawing board on what is the final part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/archive\/farrell-submits-folkestone-harbour-overhaul-plans\">original 2012 masterplan by Farrells.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The practice, which was set up by two former ACME employees, defended the designs as \u2018characterful and bold\u2019, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/architect-defends-bold-designs-for-folkestone-harbour\">AJ reported<\/a> last July.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aisfor.co\/\">A IS FOR_<\/a> <\/span>has come back with a number of key modifications to the original proposals.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Practice director <\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW192331772 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW192331772 BCX0\">Duarte Lobo Antunes<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW192331772 BCX0\"> said the updated proposal had taken in<span class=\"TextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\"> feedback from local groups and w<\/span><\/span>as <span class=\"TextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">the best solution, given the limitations of the 2015 outline planning consent.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"EOP SCXW192331772 <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">throughout the design <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW221574979 BCX0\">period<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW221574979 BCX0\">, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW221574979 BCX0\">and<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\"> have<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\"> adapt<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">ed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\"> core elements of the plans <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">to deliver <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">what we feel is the best scheme possible within the constraints of the outline planning consent, granted back in 2015<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">\u2018Our overall aim is to produce a <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">scheme<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\"> that is of huge benefit to the town of Folkestone and for those that live and work here<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW221574979 BCX0\">.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Groups such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newfolkestonesociety.org.uk\/\">New Folkestone Society<\/a> last year voiced concern for the \u2018overbearing and alien\u2019 addition to the seafront, as well as building density and the size of retail accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>Roger De Haan, chairman of FHSDC, said he was confident the latest scheme was the \u2018finalised\u2019 design based on \u2018many years\u2019 of consultation.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018These [plans] have been adapted and shaped following the latest round of feedback and we are confident that what is proposed is an excellent scheme for the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Our plans will enhance the current spaces that have already transformed the vibrancy of the area and create an exciting legacy project that will provide a year-round offering and a major boost to the local economy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The harbour arm scheme is part of FSHDC\u2019s major redevelopment of the harbour and the seafront site, which was formerly railway sidings, a fairground and a flea market, which closed in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>The company has outline planning permission for up to 1,000 new homes on the site and has begun construction on the first phase of 84 homes designed by ACME on its western edge.<\/p>\n<p>A planning application
