The London-headquartered practice was appointed by the Universidad Ean in Colombia to deliver a new home for its school of sustainable design.<\/p>\n

The statement structure will sit on Calle 72, a main thoroughfare in the capital of Bogot\u00e1 and part of the university’s existing campus.<\/p>\n

Heatherwick Studio said its creative designs \u2018pay homage\u2019 to the local craft tradition of Werregue basketry, a form of weaving connected to the country’s indigenous Wounaan community.<\/p>\n

The fa\u00e7ade of the building will be made up of colourful columns and circular, planted terraces while designers said they were still working on \u2018innovative fa\u00e7ade materials\u2019 able to cope with high levels of sunlight.<\/p>\n

Eliot Postma, partner at Heatherwick Studio, said: \u2018Creativity is intrinsic to the city of Bogot\u00e1. You see it everywhere.<\/p>\n

\u2018We want students to feel proud of their campus before they even enter the building, arriving through a public square that offers passers-by a welcoming communal oasis amid the hard urban surroundings.\u2019<\/p>\n

The building will serve as a new centre for the campus while the scheme will also provide a new public space in the city.<\/p>\n

Universidad Ean aims to celebrate sustainable development by bringing the cloud forest that surrounds the country\u2019s capital into the new building, and\u00a0Heatherwick’s proposals incorporate local plant species on open terraces.<\/p>\n
